"Convergence" Public Art Work

Convergence represents a force field designed to energetically unite and uplift the often-overlooked community of Fairmont. This permanent installation features over forty mirrored plexiglass pieces, each cut into the shapes of New Jersey, the Fairmont neighborhood, New Jersey’s twenty-one counties, and the continents of the world. These shapes are suspended within a web-like structure of black vinyl-covered stainless steel cables, which are bolted between fourteen precast cement columns.

Placed between sixteen and twenty-six feet above a community space designated for social gatherings and a farmers market, the installation invites interaction. Each shape is slightly angled, creating reflections of the viewers beneath and capturing details of the neighborhood. The shadows cast by the pieces become active participants, shifting throughout the day and across seasons, further deepening the relationship between the artwork and its surroundings.

At its core, Convergence seeks to foster connection and pride within the Fairmont community, creating an enduring bond between residents and their environment. The work aspires to inspire a collective sense of ownership and empowerment, offering both a visual and emotional reflection of the neighborhood’s strength and potential.
