The Gravity of Our Locus
The Gravity of Our Locus consists of six strands of bullets suspended above six copper bowls. As the sounds of a heartbeat and the tremor of an earthquake reverberate through the space, the bullet casings rattle within the bowls, creating a dissonant, drum-like rhythm. This work serves as a reflection on humanity’s inherent destructive tendencies and the fragile, ever-changing nature of the Earth. The composition is not only an exploration of violence and vulnerability, but also a meditation on the delicate balance that holds societies and ecosystems together.
Through this piece, I aim to offer a different kind of mapping — one that charts the transient nature of human connections and the impermanence of community bonds. In considering the fragility of these interactions, the installation invites viewers to reflect on the ripple effects of societal actions, the impact of conflict, and the elusive quality of connection in an increasingly fragmented world. This work is a contemplation on the vulnerability of both the planet and its inhabitants, questioning how fleeting moments of unity can be undone by our own tendencies toward division and destruction.
By embodying both the tension and beauty within this fragility, The Gravity of Our Locus becomes a space for introspection and dialogue, encouraging a deeper understanding of the bonds between us and the environment that sustains us.
